Synopsis

I'm starting with something new!Since Ive started to take DJing serious last year Ive been playing many different types of styles at many different types of events which made it hard to explain what my sound is.After saying the same basically everything except techno and hardstyle (Noëalmostall) mantra Ive decided that in 2019 Im going to upload a selftitled mix series every month highlighting one genre or style I like to play.Tell me what you think and sharing = caring :DS/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the covers

Yes! Closing off the last chapter of the series with some Grime

  • 011 (UK Garage)

    24/11/2019 Duration: 32min

Finally it's time for number 11: my UK Garage mix!Back when I only played Hip Hop, R&B and Soul (and before the trapsound really came through) I started doing my first club gigs and always felt like the tempo of the music I was playing was too slow and not danceable enough. Luckily, around the same time I got to know MC Stretch and J Flava who put me on this other sound: 2-Step. To me, it sounded liked speeded up R&B and I started to dig into the sound. Pretty soon I found out about UK Garage which I came to fell in love with because it had all the same elements I loved about Hip Hop (deep basslines, hard hitting drums, funky rhythms and soulful vocals but it was about 1,5 times faster in tempo than the music I was back then! Years passed, I went to many UK Garage clubnights (which were still my best memories to this date) and fell deeper and deeper into the scene. After many raves we started our own clubnight Jangala which had a nice little run for a year and later on I got bookings myself too t

  • 010 (House)

    27/10/2019 Duration: 26min

Okay so this is number 10!Back when I used go out for the first couple of times most parties would play EDM and dirty house mostly. I thought that that was what #House was and it really just wasn’t something for me so I decided to pretty much ban all those parties. I liked Daft Punk (does that count?) but that was it pretty much for a long time. Eventually, Disclosure popped on my radar around the same time I already started to slowly open up more towards the genre. Eventually I started discovering and bit by bit through digging and visiting parties and festivals I developed my taste to where it is now which is pretty much the same as my preferred type of sound in all other genres: tough drums, deep basslines, soulful sounds and nice rhythmic accents here and there.Really love how this one rolled out. Despite I still am just finding my way within the genre and it’s scene I managed to capture pretty accurate how I like my house! I’ve never even played a house-only set ever yet so I’d love to do that. Hopefully

  • 009 (Future Beats)

    29/09/2019 Duration: 25min

Here it is, number 9!This one is all about Future Beats, still one of my favorite genres. I've always loved the unconventional rhytms and drops and warm electronic spacey sounds. Despite that the scene by itself isn't what it used to be anymore I feel that the sound has spread on to influence many other genres where I often hear it pushing through into the mainstream. In this mix I blended some older favorites with some more recent tracks by Kaytranada, Tek.Lun, Jabair, Coastal, NO7iCE, Sam Gellaitry, Jeftuz, Verzache, xander, DKVPZ, GEOTHEORY, Hug Life, More // Night and my main guy Melle Jutte!Mixed on my XDJ-RX1!Cover made with a little help from ZLVSMTH <3

  • 008 (Hip Hop)

    25/08/2019 Duration: 28min

Here is 008 uploaded from Notting Hill during the Carnival in London!Out of all the mixes so far this one actually felt like the most unusual to mix. Despite that Hip Hop was the first genre I've ever started to listen to I had the least of an idea of where I wanted to go with this one. I feel that now that it's the most dominant genre in pop everybody listens to it and has his/her taste. Sadly tho, I have the impression that this pressures DJ's such as myself and others around me more and more to play the popular charting songs which kinda kills the (to me essential) element of being a selecter as a DJ. So, I decided to leave most of the songs that everybody already knows and just focus on the songs/sound/vibes that I particularly like at the moment. Tracks by: BJ The Chicago Kid, Matt McGhee, BROCKHAMPTON, Mr. Carmack, Stalley, IshDARR, Ciscero, GoldLink, Post Malone, Jay Prince, Elujay, KYLE and NAV.Hope you have fun with it :)Mixed on my XDJ RX again and cover made with help by Zoe Love Smi

  • 007 (Afro)

    28/07/2019 Duration: 37min

And number 7 is up! Since Afro (in all its forms) made its way into the clubs I've been joyfully watching it evolve and grow as a genre/sound. To me it combines fresh highly danceable riddims with a fairly new voice that is finally getting it's deserved attention on an international scale. During a set I've always went for the afro sound when I needed some interesting spice to put into the mix and nowadays I almost always play a couple tracks when I get the chance. Lately I've been reading and digging a lot on the Nigerian Alté scene which (in my opinion) seems te be the most interesting scene in music to watch as it develops at the moment. Hope you enjoy this one. Cover designed with help by Zoe Love Smith. Mixed on my CDJ RX. Tracks by Santi, prettyboydo, Rema, Odunsi, BenjiFlow, Juls, BOJ, Show Dem Camp, Full Crate, Bas, WizKid, Ekany and SirOJ.

  • 006 (Baile Funk)

    30/06/2019 Duration: 25min

Today I dropped mixtape 006 which is packed with my fav Baile Funk type tunes by DKPZ, Vhoor, Mitchell Yard, Cardosu, PPP, KVNL, Lotso, SirOJ, MC Kevin & MC Davi, Drew, Sansai and Jarreau Vandal & Jaël.I’ve always loved how gritty but groovy, different and distinct this sound is. Unfortunately it didn’t really push through into the mainstream despite it caught some populairity the last couple of years. Either way I still love playing this because it sounds so inviting to dance to and I love how beautiful the portguese language sounds (despite it’s mostly vulgar content haha) so I often manage to mix one or two of these into a set. I shot the foto of this cover myself at the foot of Favela Da Rocinha in Rio De Janerio in 2011. Also went up there back then. Can’t do that now anymore cause it’s less safe there than it was back then. Edited by Zoe Love Smith of course. Let me know if you like (or dislike) it and please share it in your story if you support! Beijinhos

  • 005 (Dancehall)

    31/05/2019 Duration: 33min

  • 004 (Classic Disco)

    28/04/2019 Duration: 31min

And number 4 is here!I wasn't planning to do this mix initially because I prefer to play new music mostly and classic disco is one of the hardest genre's to accurately mix but since a couple of people asked me to do one I gave it my best shot :)Only 70's and 80's in this one by a few of my favorite artists and bands like Sherrick, Midnight Star, The Whispers, The Pointer Sisters, Shalamar, Rick James and ofcourse Patrice Rushen! I picked most of these songs from out of my Ferry Maat Soul Show collection (cause there are just so many gems in there) so a big thank you to him!P.S. I don't get to play disco as much as I would like so if you know any parties or clubs where this sound fits please let me know or tag them!Mixed on my XDJ RX-1 at home as always!S/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the cover again ♥

  • 003 (R&B)

    31/03/2019 Duration: 32min

Number 3 already!R&B is probably what I play most. I like how you can mix the known with the unknown and the old with the new while soundwise it all fits together just right! I especialy like the "future" sound of this genre so aside better known tracks by Ty Dolla Sign, Ella Mai, Majid Jordan, Justin Timberlake and Jhene Aiko I've also included a timeless gem by J*DaVeY, an old remix by SirOJ of a Ryan Leslie track, this overlooked song by Soft Glas, a rare DEAN and Anderson .Paak collabo, tracks by upcoming stars Zacari and Kyle Dion and a favorite modern track by Brandy!Mixed on my XDJ RX-1 again!S/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the cover again ♥

  • 002 (Funk)

    24/02/2019 Duration: 32min

So here is number 2 in my monthly selftitled mix series! After setting it off with Neo Soul in my previous mix I felt it was only right to continue with a Funk (and some Disco ish?) type mix. Ofcourse I had to put in some Zapp and Kleeer to rep the originators of my favorite Funk sound. Also an overlooked oldie by Daft Punk in there I still like and a track by Will I Am you might recognize from another track. Also a very early Midas Hutch original that I luckily downloaded years and years ago! Mixed on my XDJ RX-1 again!S/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the cover again ♥️

  • 001 (Neo Soul)

    17/02/2019 Duration: 33min

This is the first one kicking it all off with my favorite new, old and underrated Neo Soul vibes by R+R=NOW, Erykah Badu, Joomanji, Les Nubians, Louis Matters,, LSK, Jaël, Anderson .Paak, D'Angelo and RIMON! I chose to start with this genre because I'm trying to build up the energy with each mix and because it's the main sound I listen to on a daily basis.S/O to Zoë Love Smith helping me design for the cover ♥️
